AI, People & Planet is a research initiative hosted by the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Princeton Institute for International Regional and Studies at Princeton University, The Urban Systems Lab at The New School and, the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University.
Project Aim
The initiative aims to explore how rapid technological change like artificial intelligence (AI) might both support and undermine transformations to sustainability. We aim to advance both innovative research and action, and explore the challenges rapid technological change pose for biosphere based sustainability.
Key Questions
How can AI be used to advance research about our rapidly changing planet?
How will AI and automation affect the prospects of biosphere based sustainability in urban settings, agriculture, forestry, oceans and the Earth system?
How can we make sure that applications of artificial intelligence contribute to a just and safe operating space, and help us understand and address urgent social and environmental challenges?
